More than 2.98 crore of Covid vaccine doses are still available in the states, UT: Center | India News


NEW DELHI: More than 2.98 crore of Covid vaccine doses are still available in Union states and territories, the Union Health Ministry said Monday.
So far, 29,35,04,820 doses of vaccines have been provided to Union states and territories (UT) through the Center’s free channel and direct state procurement category, he said.
Of this, total consumption, including waste, is 26,36,26,884 doses, according to data available as of 8 a.m. Monday, the ministry said.
“A total of 2,98,77,936 doses of Covid-19 vaccine are still available in the states and UT to be administered,” the ministry said.
He said that as part of the nationwide vaccination campaign, the central government has been supporting the states and UT by providing them with Covid vaccines at no cost.
In addition, the Center has also been facilitating direct procurement of vaccines by states and UT, the ministry said.
Vaccination is an integral pillar of the comprehensive strategy for containing and managing the pandemic, along with ‘test, trace, treat’ and appropriate Covid behavior, he said.
The implementation of the liberalized and accelerated phase 3 strategy of Covid-19 vaccination began on May 1 and, under it, every month, the Center will acquire 50 percent of the vaccine doses approved by the Laboratory Central of Total Medicines of any manufacturer, according to the ministry. saying.
It will continue to make these doses available to state governments at no cost, as has been done previously, he said.
