NIA Arrests Key Conspirator in Kerala Gold Smuggling Case | India News

NEW DELHI: The National Investigative Agency (NIA) arrested Muhammed Mansoor PH, suspected “key conspirator” in the gold smuggling case related to the seizure of yellow metal from luggage addressed to an embassy official in Kerala , agency. the spokesman said.
Mansoor was arrested by the NIA upon arrival at Calicut International Airport from Dubai, United Arab Emirates, the spokesman said.
The case concerns the seizure of 30 kg of gold, worth 14.82 million rupees, on July 5, 2020 at the air cargo airport of Trivandrum International Airport by the Customs Commission (Preventive), Cochin, from the luggage addressed to the charge d’affaires of the Consulate of the United Arab Emirates. , Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.
The NIA registered the case on July 10, 2020 and resumed the investigation. The NIA filed a charge sheet against 20 defendants in January of this year.
The spokesperson said that the investigation into the case has revealed that Mohammed Mansoor while in the UAE had conspired with the defendant Mohammed Shafi P and others to facilitate the smuggling of gold into India, through a directed import cargo. to diplomats at the UAE Consulate in Thiruvananthapuram.
The NIA special court in Ernakulam had issued a warrant for Mansoor’s arrest without bail.
He was brought before a special court in Kochi and has been in custody in custody of the agency for five days.
