NEW DELHI: Shortly after his colleague in Congress, Jitin Prasada, resigned from the party to join the BJP, Milind Deora said Wednesday that Congress must regain its position as India’s great party and claimed that it still has a strong bank which, if empowered and used optimally, can deliver.
However, a former head of the Mumbai Congress, Deora, wished that several of his friends, colleagues and valued colleagues had not left the party.
Congressional leader Prasada joined the BJP on Wednesday in a shot in the arm for the saffron party as it prepares for the assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh scheduled for early next year.
He joined the BJP in the presence of Union Minister Piyush Goyal and his chief spokesperson, Anil Baluni.
In an obvious reference to development, Deora tweeted: “I believe in @INCIndia as a party that can and should reclaim its position as the great party of India. We still have a strong bank that if empowered and used optimally it can comply”.
“I just wish that several of my friends, colleagues and valued colleagues had not left us,” he said.
Deora, Prasada, Jyotiraditya Scindia, and Sachin Pilot were once considered the young congressional brigade. They had also served in the former congressional government in the Center. Scindia and Prasada have gone to the BJP, while Pilot and Deora appear to be upset about certain problems in the match and repeatedly asked for the course to be corrected.
