NEW DELHI: A plan to create a group of authors under the age of 30 to promote the heritage, culture and knowledge of India offers an “exciting opportunity” for young people to harness their writing skills and contribute to the intellectual discourse of the nation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Tuesday.
In a tweet, Modi shared the link to the details of the program noting that the 2020 National Education Policy emphasizes empowering young minds and creating a learning ecosystem that can nurture young students for future leadership roles.
“To further this goal and commemorate India’s 75 years of independence, a national plan, YUVA: The Prime Minister’s Plan to Mentor Young Authors, will go a long way toward laying the foundations for these leaders of tomorrow,” he said.
This scheme will ensure the creation of a group of authors under 30 who are ready to express themselves and project India on any international platform, he said, adding that this will help project Indian culture and literature globally. .
“Basically, the plan envisions cultivating modern ambassadors for Indian literature as the country heads towards 75 years of independence. Our country ranks third in the field of book publishing, and to further boost this treasure of indigenous literature, it is imperative that it projects this on the global stage, “he said.
The National Book Trust, which reports to the Ministry of Education, as the implementing agency will guarantee the phased execution of the scheme under well-defined stages of mentoring, he said.
A total of 75 authors will be selected through an all-India contest on MyGov.in.
