Seven dead in a fire at a chemical plant in the district of Pune | India News


PUNE: At least seven workers died and a dozen more were missing after a large fire broke out at a chemical company located in an industrial area in the Pune district on Monday, authorities said.
According to PMRDA (Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority) fire department officials, at least six fire tenders were sent to the SVS Aqua Technologies plant in the Pirangut MIDC area in Mulshi tehsil to put out the flames.

“According to company officials, at least 17 of its workers were missing after the fire broke out.
“So far we have recovered five bodies and a search is underway for the other employees,” said Devendra Potphode, fire chief for PMRDA Fire Services.
He said the company is engaged in the manufacture, supply and export of chemicals for the treatment of surfaces, water and air.
