In April, the minister had attended the 17th ministerial meeting of BIMSTEC and said that the country remains committed to continue to build momentum for regional cooperation within the framework of BIMSTEC and turn it into a stronger, more vibrant and results-oriented grouping.
The Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multisectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) is a regional organization comprising seven member states of the Bay of Bengal region. BIMSTEC is a unique link between South and Southeast Asia with five members from South Asia (Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal and Sri Lanka) and two from Southeast Asia
Asia (Myanmar and Thailand).
Sri Lanka is the current president of BIMSTEC.
