Five dead when vehicle fell into river at J&K | India News

JAMMU: Five people were killed when a taxi they were traveling in sank in a stream in the Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday night.
Ramban SSP PD Nitya said the accident happened around 9:30 pm when the taxi, on its way to Jammu, rushed towards Bisleri Nallah near Digdol. “Of the six passengers, three were found dead and two seriously injured were rescued and taken to the hospital where one was pronounced dead. Later, the body of the sixth person was found entangled in the remains of the vehicle, ”said the SSP.
Jammu-based defense spokesman Lt. Col. Devender Anand said Territorial Army troops stationed in Digdaul rushed to the scene and had to abseil down a rock face at 90 degrees to reach the victims.
Ramban Deputy Commissioner Mussrat Islam said instructions have been issued to provide all possible help to the injured. Expressing grief over the incident, J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday ordered the departments involved to carry out a road safety audit and rectification measures within a week. Sinha also ordered authorities to launch a road safety awareness campaign on accident-prone stretches of roads to check for accidents caused by human error.
