Ecology and economy can go together: PM Modi | India News


NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Modi said on Saturday that both economy and ecology can go together and this is the path that India has chosen to set an example to the world through its many actions. Speaking on the occasion of World Environment Day, the prime minister said that there is no need to stop development to protect the environment and that India has taken “hard and soft” approaches to protect the environment and meet the challenges of climate change.
During the virtual speech to the ministers of the Union, Modi also recalled how the country took the initiative in the creation of global organizations such as the International Solar Alliance (ISA) and the Coalition for Disaster Resilience Infrastructure (CDRI) as part of its efforts to combat the threat of climate change. .
Underlining that India is a strong advocate for climate justice and is moving forward with the goal of realizing the vision of “One Sun, One World, One Network”, he said that India is among the top 10 countries in the world in performing of climate change. Referring to the “tough approach” India is taking to fight climate change, the prime minister noted that the country’s capacity for renewable energy has increased by more than 250% in the last 6-7 years.
He said that India is currently among the top five countries in the world in terms of installed renewable energy capacity, especially solar energy capacity, which has increased about 15 times in the last 6 years.
On the “soft approach”, he referred to the measures taken by the common man who has joined and been leading the campaign for the environment, such as avoiding single-use plastic, cleaning beaches and “Swachh Bharat “(Clean India).
