Poonawalla Thanks Biden and Jaishankar for Policy Change to Boost Vaccine Production | India News

NEW DELHI: Serum Institute of India Executive Director Adar Poonawalla on Friday thanked US President Joe Biden and Foreign Minister S Jaishankar for a policy change that will boost Covid vaccine production -19 in India and around the world.
Confident in the availability of Covid-19 vaccines in the US, the Biden administration removed the Defense Production Act’s priority ratings for the AstraZeneca, Novavax and Sanofi vaccines.
While companies will continue to make these three vaccines, this move will allow the US-based companies that supply these vaccine manufacturers to make their own decisions about which orders to fill first.
Sharing the link from a press conference of the White House Covid-19 response team and public health officials, Poonawalla said: “Thanks to the efforts of @POTUS, @WhiteHouse and @DrSJaishankar, this change is expected policy is to increase the supply of raw materials globally and in India, increasing our vaccine production capacity and strengthening our united fight against this pandemic. ”
In early April, Poonawalla tweeted: “Respected @POTUS, if we really want to come together to defeat this virus, on behalf of the vaccine industry outside the US, I humbly ask that you lift the embargo on commodity exports premiums outside of the US so vaccine production can increase. His administration has the details. ”
