Covid-19: India records 1.32 lakh of new cases, 2,713 deaths | India News


NEW DELHI: Maintaining a continuing trend of declining new daily cases, India on Friday reported 1,32,364 new coronavirus infections in the past 24 hours, while deaths increased by 2,713.
The infection count stood at 2,85,74,350 and the death toll at 340,702, the Health Ministry said.
On a continuous downward slope, the number of active cases dropped further to 16,35,993; less than 2 lakh from 8 consecutive days.
Active cases decreased by 77,420 in the last 24 hours. More than 2.65 million million people have recovered from Covid across the country so far. 2,07,071 patients recovered during the last 24 hours, updated data showed at 8 a.m.
On Thursday, a total of 20,75,428 tests were carried out, raising the total accumulated tests carried out so far for the detection of Covid-19 in the country to 35,74,33,846. Daily positivity was 6.38 percent. It has been less than 10 percent for 11 consecutive days, the ministry said.
The weekly positivity rate has dropped to 7.27 percent.
Active cases have dropped to 16,35,993 representing 5.73 percent of total infections, while the national Covid-19 recovery rate has improved to 93.08 percent.
There has been a net decrease of 77,420 cases in the number of Covid-19 cases in a 24-hour span.
Recoveries continue to outnumber daily new cases for 22 consecutive days. The number of people who have recovered from the disease rose to 2,65,97,655, while the fatality rate is 1.19 percent, according to the data.
India’s Covid-19 count had crossed the 20 lakh mark on August 7, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5, and 50 lakh on September 16. It went from 60 lakh on September 28, 70 lakh on October 11, crossed 80 lakh on October 29, 90 lakh on November 20, and surpassed the one crore mark on December 19. India crossed the grim 2 crore milestone on May 4.
