IUML moves SC seeking suspension in citizenship order | India News


KOZHIKODE: The anti-CAA Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) has filed a petition in the Supreme Court, seeking a stay on the Union Interior Ministry order empowering officials in 13 districts in five states to grant citizenship to non-Muslim religious minorities in Afghanistan. , Pakistan and Bangladesh under the Citizenship Act 1955.
The IUML called the order an attempt by the Center to implement its “bad faith designs under CAA.” The Center has yet to formulate the rules for the implementation of the new legislation.
The May 28 order from the Interior Ministry authorizes officials from Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Haryana and Punjab to grant citizenship to non-Muslim minorities from the three countries residing in the specified 13 districts.
