Government apathy proves more fatal than Covid at J&K: Mehbooba | India News

SRINAGAR: In accusing the Center of abandoning people in the midst of a crisis, the Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Mehbooba Mufti, alleged on Wednesday that administrative apathy coupled with mismanagement and nepotism was proving more fatal than current Covid-19 pandemic.
Addressing a virtual meeting with senior party officials, Mehbooba said: “From the rising graph of positive cases and deaths for Covid, it is clear that the administration at J&K, like the rest of the country, was not prepared to comply with the requirements. Nepotism and favoritism have paralyzed the entire administrative system in the old state, compounding the miseries of the masses in general. ”
He said the district-level administration has been paralyzed as the ruling dispensation in New Delhi does not allow officials to make decisions necessary for the well-being of the people. “The independence and functioning of the administration have been held hostage to the political aspirations of the BJP, and Jammu has been the recipient,” he said.
The PDP chief said the Mughal Road and Kishtwar-Sinthan highways remained closed to vehicular traffic even though large amounts were spent on snow clearing just because those in New Delhi consider the Rajouri-Poonch surface connectivity. and Doda-Kishtwar-Ramban of the Chenab region with Kashmir as detrimental to their political interests. “The closure of these vital road links has not only affected the business community, but has also restricted the options for those who must seek specialized medical treatment,” he said.
