Recall Lakshadweep Administrator: Kerala Assembly Passes Resolution | India News

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala assembly unanimously adopted a resolution on Monday calling on the Center to remove the administrator of Lakshadweep, Praful Khoda Patel, and take immediate action to protect the lives and livelihoods of the islanders. Kerala is the first state in the country to pass a resolution supporting the islanders’ protest against the decisions made by the new administration.
The resolution, proposed by CM Pinarayi Vijayan, was approved with minor amendments suggested by the opposition. He said attempts were being made “to impose a saffron agenda and corporate interests” on the people of Lakshadweep. “It began by painting coconut trees with saffron color and now it has grown to destroy its traditional habitat, life,” adds the resolution.
“The administration has started enforcing a Goonda law in a place where crime is rare … A dictatorial system of governance is developing,” he said. “Attempts are being made to destroy people’s fishing livelihoods, demolishing sheds where fishermen’s boats and nets are stored, to eliminate their staple food, beef, and to shut down dairy farms … The manager he is now taking the lead in gradually destroying the life and culture of the Lakshadweep people, ”he added.
The powers of the district panchayat and the village panchayat dweep have been transferred to the administrator. Fisheries, health, education, animal husbandry and agriculture departments are also being removed from the district panchayat, he said.
“An administrator who does not have the authority to intervene directly in these departments has been empowered to do so by order. By doing so, the Center is undermining the island’s democracy, ”said the resolution. “The administrator who challenges it must be eliminated.”
“If Sangh Parivar’s policy is not nipped in the bud, there will be serious problems,” said opposition leader VD Satheesan.
