With 2,795 deaths from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, India’s death toll is now 3.31,895, according to data from the Union Ministry of Health last updated at 9 a.m.

The Covid ordeal in India in May was the worst witnessed in any country in any month since the start of the pandemic, both in terms of the absolute number of cases and deaths.
India officially recorded nearly 1.2 lakh deaths during the month (over 1.19,000), which was 2.5 times the number of victims reported in the country in April (48,768).
Meanwhile, on Tuesday, India registered 1.27,510 new cases of Covid-19, bringing the number of national cases to 2.81.75,044, according to data from the Health Ministry. With 18.95,520 active cases, the number of active cases from India is now below 20 lakhs after 43 days.
Positivity rate and recovery rate
The daily positivity rate also dropped to 6.62 percent, staying below the 10 percent mark for the seventh day in a row, while the weekly positivity rate fell to 8.64 percent.
Meanwhile, recoveries continue to outnumber daily new cases for the 19 consecutive days as India witnessed 2,55,287 recoveries in the past 24 hours, the ministry said. India’s recovery count has reached 2,59,47,629 and the recovery rate stands at 92.09 percent.
Total Covid tests performed
According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), a total of 34,67,92,257 samples analyzed until May 31st of which 19,25,374 samples were analyzed yesterday.
The Union Ministry of Health reported that so far about 21,60,46,638 doses of vaccines have been administered within the framework of the nationwide vaccination campaign.
India recorded nearly 90.3 lakh of Covid cases in May, by far the highest monthly count reported in any country so far. Although infections declined steadily during the second half of the month, the overall numbers were so high that the case count in May was 30 percent higher than the previous record of 69.4 lakh, also reported in India in the month of April.
The worst month of the pandemic in the US was December, when the country recorded 65.3 million cases. However, in total cases per million, the US count is 102,302, five times higher than India’s (20,144). The death toll from the May pandemic was bleaker.
The total number of Covid-19 cases globally has exceeded 170.5 million, while deaths have risen to more than 3.54 million, according to Johns Hopkins University.
