During the Appointments Committee meeting for the appointment to the position of president and members of the National Human Rights Commission held Monday evening at the Prime Minister’s residence here, Kharge recorded his views on the committee’s decision to recommend a panel of names. for the selection for the position of president and members of the National Human Rights Commission.
“At today’s meeting I had reiterated my concern about the increase in atrocities in Recognized Castes, Recognized Tribes and minorities and proposed that at least one person from Recognized Castes, Recognized Tribes and minorities be recommended for appointment to the position of President under Section 3 (2) (a) or a member under Section 3 (2) (c) or a member under Section 3 (2) (d) of the National Rights Commission Humans from the existing list of candidates.
“I also pointed out that the appointment of the president or a member of the National Human Rights Commission cannot simply be ignored on the pretext that there is no specific provision to this effect in the 1993 Human Rights Protection Act and the amendments Obviously there can be no bar to appoint president or member of the CNDH for this reason, “he said in his letter.
Alternatively, the congressional leader proposed that if this is not feasible, the meeting can be postponed for a week and reconvened bringing to the selection committee the names of some candidates from the scheduled castes, scheduled tribes and minorities so that one of these may be recommended for appointment to the position of president or member of the National Human Rights Commission.
“Since the Committee did not accept any of my proposals, I express my disagreement with the recommendations made by the committee regarding appointments to the positions of chairman and members of the NHRC,” Kharge said in his letter to the Prime Minister.
