Covid-19: India records 1.52 lakh of new cases, lowest in 50 days; 3,128 deaths | India News
With 1,52,734 new cases of Covid-19, the country’s total case count is 2,80,47,534, according to the latest data from the Union Ministry of Health updated at 9 a.m.
The last time the single day Covid-19 increase in India was less than 1.52 lakh was on April 10 (1.45,384).
The second wave is now receding in all states / territories in the Union except some in the Northeast and Ladakh.
While new cases of the virus fell for the third week in a row, last week’s numbers showed the most complete decline yet.
Infections have started to decline in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and Assam, states that had shown an upward trend until last week.
Meanwhile, with 3,128 new deaths, the death toll in India stands at 3,29,100, according to data from the Health Ministry. The last time India’s single-day Covid-19 death toll was less than 3,100 was on April 27 (2,771).
However, the painfully high death count in the second wave is finally declining. In the week ending Sunday, deaths nationwide were down 17 percent, the first decline in 12 weeks.

India recorded 24,372 deaths between May 24 and May 30, a drop of nearly 5,000 from the previous week’s death toll of 29,331. These included previous deaths added to the number of victims in Maharashtra and Uttarakhand during this period.
Before this week, the Covid death toll had risen for 11 weeks in a row, as the second deadly wave left the country’s health infrastructure completely overwhelmed.
Weekly deaths had last seen a decline in the week of March 1-7. In the month of May alone, the number of Covid victims in the country has exceeded 1.15 lakh so far.
