Chancellor S Jaishankar and US Secretary of Defense Hold Security Talks | India News


NEW DELHI: Prior to his meeting with his US counterpart Anthony Blinken, Foreign Minister S Jaishankar met with US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin in Washington. Later, Jaishankar tweeted: “A warm meeting with Lloyd Austin. An in-depth conversation about further development of our defense and strategic partnership. Exchange of views on contemporary security challenges. He expressed his appreciation for the US military role in responding to the Covid situation. ”
Austin was the only member of Biden’s cabinet to visit India earlier this year.
Previously, Jaishankar held a series of meetings with other cabinet members and business leaders in Washington. He met with NSA Jake Sullivan and then tweeted: “Wide-ranging discussions, including on the Indo-Pacific and Afghanistan. He conveyed his appreciation for the solidarity of the United States in addressing the Covid challenge. The US-India vaccine partnership can make a real difference. ”
“Our people-to-people ties and values ​​are the foundation of the US-India partnership and will help us end the pandemic, lead the climate, and support a free and open Indo-Pacific,” Sullivan tweeted.
Jaishankar also met with the director of national intelligence, Avril Haines. “We look forward to working closely together to address contemporary security challenges and advance our strategic partnership,” he said after the meeting.
