Jaishankar Meets With US Lawmakers, Discusses Quad-Related Developments And Vaccine Cooperation | India News


WASHINGTON: Foreign Minister S Jaishankar met with influential US lawmakers from both the Democratic and Republican parties on Thursday and discussed Quad-related developments and vaccine cooperation with them.
“We discuss developments related to Quad and our cooperation on vaccines. Acknowledge his leadership in building stronger ties,” said Jaishankar after his meeting with Congressman Gregory Meeks, who is the chairman of the powerful House Foreign Affairs Committee. , along with its most senior member, Congressman Michael McCaul.
The minister also had a “good conversation” with the co-chairs of the Indian House of Representatives Caucus, Congressman Brad Sherman of the Democratic Party and Congressman Steve Chabot of the Republican Party.
“The United States Congress has been a tremendous pillar of support as India meets the challenge of Covid,” Jaishankar tweeted.
All four US lawmakers have been strong advocates of the US-India relationship.
In a tweet, Sherman said he learned about how India is fighting COVID-19 and working to untangle its economy from China.
A day earlier, after introducing the Ensuring America’s Global Participation and Leadership Act (EAGLE), Congressman Meeks welcomed the Biden administration’s initiative toward India.
