10,000 sachets of anti-Covid 2-DG drug will be available on the market from Thursday, says Rajnath Singh | India News
NEW DELHI: The Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh reported that 10,000 sachets of anti-Covid 2-DG drug will be available on the market from Thursday.
The anti-Covid drug has been developed by the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO).
With the launch of the OPD portal ‘Servicios e-Salud Asistencia y Teleconsulta (SeHAT)’ via videoconference, Singh praised the armed forces, stating that it is a key step taken at a very critical time for the health of service personnel, and to reduce the burden on hospitals.
The Chief of the Defense Staff, General Bipin Rawat, the Chief of the Army, General MM Naravane, and the Admiral-in-Chief of the Navy Karambir Singh, were among those who attended the event.
Referring to the second wave of Covid-19, the Defense Minister said: “This wave of Covid is unprecedented and more dangerous than before. But the Ministry of Defense has also provided its services in the second wave. DRDO has established hospitals. Covid and oxygen generating plants in Delhi, Lucknow, Varanasi and many other parts of the country. ”
He further said that with the help of Hyderabad-based Dr. Reddy’s Lab, DRDO has produced an essential anti-Covid 2-DG drug.
“It is yielding positive results. I have been receiving feedback from many states that they want 2-DG. I am delighted to say that 10,000 envelopes are hitting the market today,” he added.
The first batch of the anti-Covid drug was launched by Defense Minister Singh and Union Health Minister Mr. Harsh Vardhan on May 17.
DRDO President Dr. G Satheesh Reddy had reported that the first batch of 2-DG would only be available to AIIMS, Armed Forces hospitals, DRDO hospitals and other places in need. It will be available to other hospitals in June.
Reddy had also reported that the new anti-Covid 2-DG drug should work against various strains of the Covid-19 virus.
