NEW DELHI: The government Installation of captive oxygen generating plants in hospitals is likely to be started in a “mission” mode so that the task can be completed in 3-4 months.
Currently, work has begun to install about 300 such plants and the necessary construction works by three major government-owned construction agencies – NHAI, CPWD and NBCC – have begun in various locations.
The sources said that so far only government hospitals are interested in installing such plants and ropes in private hospitals in Tier 2 and 3 cities will be a key issue.
The government has an ambitious plan to install about 1,600 plants of this type in the next 3-4 months. The sources said that while carrying out civil construction works for the plants is not a big task, the acquisition and installation of the plants is much more critical.
“But you need to have a mission to achieve this goal within a certain time frame. Oxygen demand cannot be met by bringing this in from plants located 1000, 1500 km from hospitals. This must be done to meet any future requirements, “said a source.
TOI also learned that a subcommittee of an empowered group on oxygen is prioritizing the establishment of pressure swing adsorption (PSA) medical oxygen generation plants in different parts of the country based on the high number of Covid cases and the distance from these locations. of existing oxygen generation plants.
Officials also said the focus should be more on areas that are more than 300-400 km from existing oxygen generation plants, while new facilities are created to increase the response time of the existing tanker fleet.
“If we focus more on high-load centers, then by the time the new facilities go live, the peak may be over. Therefore, all aspects are being considered while accelerating the installation in specific places with priority ”, said one of the officials involved in this task.
