NEW DELHI: To help Indian women facing violence or any kind of distress when visiting abroad or living there, the government has decided to establish One-Stop-Shop Centers (OSCs) to provide legal, medical and emotional support in 10 missions in nine countries to start. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will establish and manage these CSOs in missions abroad with the support of the Union Ministry of Women and Child Development.
“A CSO will be established in Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Australia, Canada and Singaporewhile two will be established in Saudi Arabia, ”said a senior WCD ministry official, noting that 300 more CSOs will also be opened across India.
While CSOs in the states provide support to survivors of rape and assault, the WCD has also decided to provide additional support through the Nirbhaya Fund for minor survivors of rape who are abandoned by families, including pregnant survivors. A senior official said the corpus of 74 million rupees will be set aside for need-based assistance for such cases.
