India reports 2.22 lakh cases, the lowest in a month | India News


NEW DELHI: The downward trend in daily new coronavirus cases continued with 2,22,315 cases reported on Monday, according to data provided by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The last time less than 2.22 lakh of cases were reported was on April 16.
However, the country continued to witness more than 4,000 deaths per day. On Monday, more than 4,454 deaths were reported.

India had registered 2,17,353 new infections on April 16.
Active cases have been further reduced to 27,20,716, representing 10.17 percent of total infections, while the national Covid-19 recovery rate has improved to 88.69 percent. The number of people who have recovered from the disease increased to 2,37,28,011, while the fatality rate increased to 1.14 percent, according to the data.
India’s Covid-19 count had crossed the 20 lakh mark on August 7, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5, and 50 lakh on September 16. It went from 60 lakh on September 28, 70 lakh on October 11, crossed 80 lakh on October 29, 90 lakh on November 20, and surpassed the one crore mark on December 19. India crossed the grim 2 crore milestone on May 4.

The 4,454 new deaths include 1,320 from Maharashtra, 624 from Karnataka, 422 from Tamil Nadu, 231 from Uttar Pradesh, 192 from Punjab, 189 from Delhi, 188 from Kerala, 156 from West Bengal, 107 from Bihar and 104 from Andhra Pradesh.
A total of 3.03,720 deaths have been reported in the country so far, including 88,620 from Maharashtra, 25,282 from Karnataka, 23,202 from Delhi, 20,468 from Tamil Nadu, 19,209 from Uttar Pradesh, 14,364 from West Bengal, 13,281 from Punjab and 12,586 of Chhattisgarh.
The Ministry of Health highlighted that more than 70 percent of the deaths occurred due to comorbidities.

On Sunday, the country analyzed more than 19 Lakh samples tested on May 23, bringing the cumulative total across the country to more than Rs 33 million, according to ministry data.

The country has fully vaccinated more than 43 million people. More than 196 million doses were administered as of March 24. On Monday, the country administered more than 94.2 lakh doses.
