The IMA has said the Union health ministry should take action against Ramdev for making unlearned statements and smearing scientific medicine.
NEW DELHI: Responding to IMAstatement accusing Baba Ramdev of misleading people by making “unlearned” comments against allopathy, Patanjali on Saturday he said that the yoga guru has no ill will against modern science or its practitioners.
The IMA had said earlier in the day that the Union Ministry of Health it should take action against Ramdev for his “unlearned” statements and for smearing scientific medicine.
However, Patanjali was quick to defend Ramdev and claimed that the statement attributed to him by the IMA is false.
Citing a video circulating on social media, the IMA said Ramdev has claimed that “allopathy is stupid science” and drugs such as remdesivir, faviflu and other drugs approved by the Drug controller General of India has not treated COVID-19 patients.
“Lakhs of patients have died after taking allopathic drugs,” the association said, citing the yoga guru.
Ramdev should be prosecuted under the Epidemic Diseases Act, as “unlearned” statements are “a threat to the country’s literate society, as well as to the poor who fall prey to it,” said the body of doctors in the cusp in a statement.
“The Union Health Minister (Harsh Vardhan), who is a practicing modern medicine allopathic graduate and head of this (health) ministry, should accept this gentleman’s challenge and indictment and dissolve the modern medical facility o bravely confront and prosecute the person for their arson words on the sovereignty of the country and reserve it under the Epidemic Law to save millions of people from such unscientific statements, “said the IMA.
He alleged that Ramdev is trying to take advantage of the situation and create a sense of fear and frustration among the people in general.
It is doing it “so that it can sell its alleged illegal and unapproved drugs and make money at the expense of the general public,” the association said.
The IMA said Ramdev deserves to be prosecuted for disobeying and endangering the lives of many by making them believe that they should not follow the advice of allopathic physicians.
“The IMA demands and resolves that if the minister (Harsh Vardhan) does not take a suo moto action, we will be forced to resort to democratic means of struggle to spread the truth to the common man and knock on the doors of the judiciary to obtain justice,” He said.
Taking people for ransom and winning business by defaming scientific medicine are unforgivable crimes, the IMA said.
Citing Ramdev’s comments, he said such “unlearned and unlearned” statements are a threat to society.
