NEW DELHI: The Department of Science and Technology (DST) has invited proposals on the development of oxygen concentrators amid the second wave of Covid-19.
Proposals should come from scientists from educational and research institutes, laboratories, universities and medical institutions, startups and industry, the DST said.
Industry scientists should align themselves with researchers from academic or research institutions as co-investigators. Funding from industry partners regarding R&D leading to commercialization will be forwarded to the Technology Development Board (TDB), DST, for consideration.
The duration of the project is one year.
The call for proposals comes in the context of medical oxygen shortages in recent weeks as the country grappled with the second wave of the coronavirus.
This initiative is expected to help meet the need for indigenous concentrators working on a new approach to supplying supplemental oxygen in hospital and ICU wards and as a low-cost source of therapeutic oxygen for patients in home isolation. .
This new government initiative will soon catalyze R&D on critical components and innovations related to oxygen concentrators made in India to meet emerging healthcare requirements to combat the COVID 19 epidemic, the DST said.
