Goa Court adjourns hearing in Tarun Tejpal case until May 21 | India News
Tehelka’s former editor-in-chief had been accused of raping a colleague in 2013.
NEW DELHI: A session court in Goa postponed its sentencing in the rape trial on Wednesday Tejpal Tarun Until May 21. Tejpal, the former editor-in-chief of Tehelka, is accused of sexually assaulting a woman in 2013.
The verdict was scheduled to be delivered on May 12, but was postponed until May 19 due to staff shortages in light of the Covid-19 crisis. Now the verdict has been postponed again until May 21.
Tejpal was arrested on November 30, 2013 after being accused of raping a colleague at a five-star resort in North goa. He had been out on bail.
On September 29, 2017, the court charged him under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including rape, sexual harassment and wrongful confinement.
However, he pleaded not guilty. Following the filing of the charges, Tejpal moved the Supreme Court seeking the annulment of the charges that are imputed to him.
In August, the higher court refused to vacate the charges and ordered the trial to be concluded within six months.
