Former Union Minister dies after recovering from Covid | India News


JAMMU: Veteran BJP official and former Union Minister Professor Chaman Lal Gupta took one last breath at his Jammu residence on Tuesday after recovering from Covid-19. Prime Minister Narendra Modi mourned the high-ranking politician’s passing.
Gupta, 87, died days after receiving successful treatment for Covid-19 at a hospital, a relative said. He tested positive on May 5 and returned from the hospital Sunday after testing negative for the disease.
The Prime Minister’s official Twitter identifier said: “He was a dedicated legislator and strengthened the BJP in Jammu and Kashmir. Sorrowful for his disappearance. My thoughts are with his family and followers in this hour of pain. Om Shanti “.
The Union Minister, Dr. Jitendra Singh, also lamented the disappearance of the unconditional in a message on Twitter. “The disappearance of Professor Gupta, who was an inspiration, a founding member of Bhartiya Jan Sangh and who strengthened the BJP, is a great loss. My condolences. “Dr. Singh tweeted.
A three-time MLA, Gupta first became a member of the J&K Legislative Assembly in 1972 and was then elected in 2008 and 2014. In the meantime, he was elected to the 11th Lok Sabha of the Udhampur-Doda constituency. Kathua in 1996 and was re-elected to the 12th and 13th Lok Sabha in 1998 and 1999, respectively. He was Minister of State of the Union, Ministry of Civil Aviation, between October 13, 1999 and September 1, 2001; Vice Minister (independent position), Ministry of Food Processing Industries (September 1, 2001 to June 30, 2002) and Vice Minister of Defense (July 1, 2002-2004).
Author of three books in Hindi, Sansad Mein Jammu Kashmir, Sansad Mein Dedh Varsh and Mere Prayaas, Gupta was twice president of J&K BJP.
