Probe transfer out of Maha: Param Bir in SC | India News
NEW DELHI: Former Mumbai Police Chief Param Bir Singh faces an investigation into a 2015 case under the SC / ST Act that was recorded after he made extortion accusations against former Maharashtra interior minister Anil Deshmukh, moved the Supreme Court Monday seeking the transfer of the investigation out of state and to an independent agency such as the CBI.
Singh requested an investigation by the CBI into the cases registered against him by the Maharashtra police and into the “compromise” offer that was relayed to him in a telephone conversation he had recorded last month. He requested a stay of his arrest in any of the cases “imposed” on him. The Maharashtra government told the Bombay High Court last week, which had ordered a CBI investigation into the alleged extortion charges in Singh’s petition, that Singh would not be arrested until May 20 in the SC / case. ST brought against him by a police officer for an alleged incident in 2015.
