West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee

CALCUTTA: Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata banerjee he has written to the president and prime minister demanding a change of governor for the sake of “good governance” in the state.
The letter comes immediately after the CBI They arrested four Trinamool leaders, including two ministers, a former minister and a former mayor in the Narada scam on Monday.
Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar has been on an unusual offensive against the Mamata government after the ruling Trinamool Congress won a landslide victory in the assembly polls this summer.
Banerjee’s letters sent Tuesday allege that Governor Dhankhar has been piling up an “exaggerated version” of the violence in West Bengal since the elections.
He said the whole exercise is to project a ‘highly inflated version’ of the law and order situation in West Bengal, overlooking the fact that the incidents occurred when control of the administration “was not in our hands.”
The situation is now under full control and the administration is busy fighting Covid, he said.
The letter also noted that Dhankhar was “crossing all boundaries” by raising the issue of law and order during the swearing-in ceremony and tweeting about it in the public domain.
He said the governor is trying to “destabilize the functioning of the government” at a time when the need of the moment was focused on efforts to control the Covid pandemic.
Trinamool Congress Sources said the party was considering a resolution passed by the legislature demanding the removal of the governor.
The governor has been in knots with the Trinamool government since he took office.
“He is trying to construct a narrative of a severe breach of law and order with a bad faith motive to destabilize an elected government,” Trinamool deputy Saugata Roy alleged.
But Raj bhavan Sources dismissed Trinamool’s allegations. One said that the governor was a lawyer by training and was “fully aware of these powers and responsibilities.”
“He had expressed valid concerns about the breaking of law and order. He had authorized the CBI to prosecute politicians involved in the Narada scam,” said Raj Bhavan’s source.
