More than 2 crore of Covid-19 vaccine doses available with the states: Center | India News


NEW DELHI: More than two crore doses of Covid-19 vaccine are still available in the states and territories of the Union, while almost three lakh of doses are in the pipeline and will be received by them in the next three days, it said on Monday the Union Ministry of Health. .
So far, the Center has provided more than 20 crore (20,76,10,230) doses of vaccines to Union states and territories free of charge. Of this, the total consumption, calculated on the basis of average figures, until May 16, including waste, is 18,71,13,705 doses (according to data available at 8 a.m. on Monday), he added.
“More than two crore of Covid-19 vaccine doses (2,04,96,525) are still available in the states and UTs to be administered,” the ministry said.
In addition, 2,94,660 doses of vaccines are in the pipeline and will be received by the states within the next three days, he said.
As part of the nationwide vaccination campaign against the viral disease, the Government of India has been supporting states by providing them with doses of vaccines free of charge, in addition to various efforts to increase vaccine production and supply.
Vaccination is an integral pillar of the government’s comprehensive strategy for the containment and management of the pandemic, along with appropriate “Test, Follow-up, Treat” and Covid behavior, the ministry said.
The implementation of the Liberalized and Accelerated Phase 3 Covid-19 Vaccination Strategy began on May 1. According to the Strategy, each month 50% of the vaccine doses approved by the Central Drug Laboratory (CDL) of any manufacturer would be purchased. by the government.
It will continue to make these doses available to states for free, the ministry added.
