Judge Chandrachud tests positive at the Covid-19, SC hearing in the case of deferred suo motu | India News


Supreme Court Justice Judge DY Chandrachud tested positive for Covid-19, supreme court sources said Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the high court issued a notice saying that the hearing scheduled for Thursday before a three-judge court led by Judge Chandrachud in the suo motu case to ensure the distribution of essential supplies and services during the Covid-19 pandemic is postponed as one of the judges. The bank has “tested positive” for coronavirus.
Leading court sources said Judge Chandrachud, who is heading the court in the suo motu case, is unwell and suffers from a mild fever.
Judge Chandrachud is recovering well, they added.
“Note that since one of the court judges was scheduled to hear ‘In Re: Distribution of essential supplies and services during the pandemic’ and similar matters, on May 13, 2021 (Thursday) he tested positive for Covid-19, the special bench composed of Dr. Judge DY Chandrachud, Judge L Nageswara Rao and Judge S Ravindra Bhat in court no. 5 will not sit down and the issues listed before this court will be postponed and the new listing date will be notified later, “the notice issued by the higher court said.
In addition to the suo motu case, several other petitions raising issues related to Covid-19 were also included for their court hearing on Thursday.
On May 10, the supreme court had said it would hear the suo motu case on May 13 as the virtual procedures were finding technical flaws that day.
The court had said the postponement would give judges more time to review the Center’s affidavit in the matter that was filed on May 9.
