All-time high: daily deaths from Covid-19 in India rise to a record 4,205 | India News


NEW DELHI: In another grim milestone, India on Wednesday recorded its highest number of Covid-19 deaths in a single day with more than 4,200 deaths in the past 24 hours. The daily case count continued above the 3 lakh mark.
Deaths from Covid-19 rose by 4,205, bringing India’s total death count to 2,54,197, according to data updated on the Union Ministry of Health website at 8:30 a.m. M.
The previous highest was 4,187 reported on May 7. The country has registered close to 50,000 deaths in the last 14 days with a daily average of more than 3,528.

With 3,48,421 new cases reported in 24 hours, the total number of cases from India now stands at 2,33,40,938. Following the trend of new Covid-19 cases, the country may have reached, or is close to reaching, the peak of the devastating second wave of the pandemic.

On a more positive note, 18 states and territories in the Union have shown a continued plateau or decline in daily new Covid-19 cases. These states include Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Telangana.

The total number of Covid-19 cases globally has exceeded 159.3 million, while deaths have risen to more than 3.31 million, according to Johns Hopkins University.
The United States remains the most affected country with the highest number of cases and deaths in the world with 32,773,387 and 582,791, respectively. In terms of infections, India is still second.
