Early Downward Trend in Daily New Covid-19 Cases, Deaths: Government | India News


NEW DELHI: An early downward trend in daily new cases and deaths from Covid-19 has been observed in the country, the government said on Tuesday, indicating that the devastating second wave of the pandemic is subsiding.
According to the government, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, and Chhattisgarh were among the 18 states and territories in the union showing a continued plateau or decline in daily new Covid-19 cases.
However, at a press conference, a senior official said that Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Punjab are among the 16 states and territories in the union showing a continued rising trend in daily new Covid cases- 19.
Thirteen states have more than 1 lakh of active Covid-19 cases each and 26 states have a positivity rate of more than 15 percent, the government said.
India has been reeling under a dire second wave of coronavirus infection. However, the daily number of deaths and infections has started to decline.
New coronavirus cases in India fell to 3.29 lakh after 14 days, bringing the infection count to 2,29,92,517, according to Union Health Ministry data updated on Tuesday.
A total of 3,29,942 infections were reported in a 24-hour span, while the death toll rose to 2.49,992 with 3,876 recent deaths, data updated at 8 a.m. showed.
After registering a steady increase for two months, active cases have dropped to 37,15,221, representing 16.16 percent of total infections, while the national recovery rate for Covid-19 was recorded in the 82.75 percent.
