3 local LeT terrorists killed in Kokernag encounter: Police | India News
SRINAGAR: Three local Lashker-e-Taiba terrorists were killed in the Vailoo village in the Kokernag area of the Anantnag district in southern Kashmir during an encounter on Tuesday, police said.
The police, who acted with specific information about the presence of three terrorists in a residential house in the town of Sheikhpora, Kokernag, launched a joint cordon and search operation together with the 19RR and the Army CRPF.
“During the search operation, when the presence of (militants) was verified, they were given the opportunity to surrender. However, they fired indiscriminately at the retaliatory joint search party, sparking an encounter, “said a police spokesman.
The joint team also rescued all civilians caught in the crossfire and halted the operation for the time being to ensure a safe evacuation of the area.
“The operation was subsequently resumed and all the terrorists were killed in the ensuing encounter.”
The murdered terrorists were identified as Ilyas Ahmad Dar alias Sameer from Danwathpora Kokernag, Ubaid Shafi alias Abdullah from Batamaloo Srinagar and Aqib Ahmad Lone alias Sahil from Khandaypora Kulgam.
“According to police records, the murdered terrorists were linked to LeT and part of the groups involved in several (militant) cases, including attacks on security forces and security establishments.”
He said an AK-47 rifle, two pistols and “incriminating materials” were recovered from the meeting place.
“The last rites of the dead terrorists will be carried out after carrying out the medical-legal procedures and the closest relatives will be able to participate in the last rites.”
Meanwhile, IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar in a tweet said that one of the dead terrorists was involved in the Aari Bagh terror attack on the home of a BJP leader on April 1, in which a policeman was martyred.
