CALCUTTA: The BJP on monday Suvendu thing Adhikari as leader of the opposition in the new West Bengal assembly.
Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad announced Adhikari’s name as leader of the Legislative Party BJP in the assembly after a meeting of legislators at the party’s Hastings office.
Adhikari had won the election of Nandigram seat of the assembly, defeating his former mentor turned political adversary Mamata Banerjee by a narrow margin of more than 1,900 votes.
A former state minister, Adhikari had joined the BJP before the state elections.
After the high-octane battle of Nandigram, the prime minister and Adhikari will again face each other in the assembly.
Sentence TMC it won 213 seats in the 294-member Bengal House elections, while the Saffron party emerged as the main opposition with 77 seats.
