Despite the assurances of the prime minister, neither the state government nor the farmers have received funds, Banerjee he said in the letter.
“I would like to impress even more that during your recent visits to the state, you gave repeated guarantees to release the backlog of Rs 18,000 to each farmer, but to date the state government or farmers have not received any funds.
“I will ask you to kindly advise the ministry in question to release the corresponding funds to eligible farmers and share the farmer database of 21.79 lakh,” the letter read.
In his electoral manifesto, the BJP has promised to provide Rs 18,000 to 75 lakh farmers in the state under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) scheme. Farmers get Rs 6,000 a year in three equal installments.
Banerjee also reminded him of the letters previously written to the Center by the state government on how to provide West Bengal farmers with the benefits of the central plan.
“Several communications were also made from the state agriculture department. In the letter, Banerjee said that the state government, under the Krishak Bandhu scheme, has already disbursed Rs 1,498 crore to 57.67 lakh to eligible farmers and Rs 242 crore to deceased farm families as of February.
Comparing the income support plans of the Center and the state, Banerjee stated that PM-Kisan has excluded many people associated with agriculture.
“PM-Kisan has a long exclusion list that includes Bargadar / sharecroppers, self-declarers, active / retired employees, income tax payers, etc. Also, under the Krishak Bandhu plan, beneficiaries they receive death assistance of two lakh rupees for death under the age of 60, “he wrote.
This is the second letter Banerjee sent to Modi in two days after being sworn in as prime minister for the third time in a row on Wednesday.
