In highest daily peak, India records 4.12 lakh of new cases, 3,980 deaths | India News
This was the second time the count passed the 4 lakh mark, after 4,02,351 infections were recorded on April 30.
The total death toll is now 23.01.68, while the infection count rose to 2,10,77,410, data updated at 8 a.m. showed.
According to the data updated by the Union Ministry of Health, India now has 35,66,398 active cases.
A total of 3,29,113 people have been discharged in the last 24 hours after being cured, added data from the Ministry of Health.
The Health Ministry said that a total of 16,25,13,339 people have been vaccinated so far in the country, including 19,55,733, who received vaccines in the last 24 hours.
According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), as of Wednesday (May 5) 29,67,75,209 samples have been analyzed for Covid-19, of these 19,23,131 samples were analyzed on Wednesday.
Amid a massive increase in infections, Karnataka reported 50,112 new cases on Wednesday, making it the second state after Maharashtra to break the milestone of 50,000 in daily cases. Cases also increased in Maharashtra, with the state registering 57,640 new infections, up from 51,880 the day before.
Karnataka was among at least 12 states and UT that recorded their largest increase in daily cases. The others were Kerala (41,953 fresh boxes), Tamil nadu (23,310), Bengal (18,102), Punjab (8,015), Uttarakhand (7,783), Assam (4,826), J&K (4,716), Himachal (3,842), Goa (3,496), Puducherry (1819) and Mizoram (238).
