TMC’s mother on EVM, EC says her position is justified | India News
NEW DELHI: Even before the announcement of the polls on February 26, the Electoral Commission had started receiving letters from west bengal CM Mamata banerjee expressing concerns about electronic voting machines (EVM) and voter-verifiable paper audit trail (VVPAT) and even requiring an audit of the results by a third party.
Sunday, with Trinamool Congress Registering an impressive victory in West Bengal, there was little rumor about the reliability of the EVMs and VVPATs.
EC officials said the results vindicated not only the EVM’s infallibility, but also their decision to adopt elaborate security arrangements, including the deployment of a large number of central forces, for the eight-phase election. “Thanks to the confidence-building measures, voters were able to turn out in large numbers and vote without fear,” an official told TOI.
“TMC’s huge mandate shows that this facilitation was as much for its voters as it was for those of any other party,” he added.
