NEW DELHI: Most states are reporting much higher spikes than before, leading to a strained healthcare system, health officials said Friday, citing data from states with a record number of Covid-19 cases and deaths that they are several times higher than their previous peaks.
The Health Ministry said that since April there has been a sharp increase in the number of cases. India reported more than 66 lakh of Covid-19 cases in April alone. Noting that the second wave has been much more intense than the first, the health ministry said in Uttar Pradesh, the figures are more than five times its last peak, in Rajasthan also five times, 4.5 times in Chhattisgarh, 3.3 times in Delhi and 4.1 times. in West Bengal.
He also said that countries around the world, including people, should follow the appropriate Covid behavior and go get vaccinated.
From April 5 onwards, the country recorded more than one lakh of cases in one day, while since April 15, the single-day increase in the number of cases exceeded two lakhs and since April 22 , began recording more than three lakhs of cases daily. . “We saw a peak in September. After that, we saw a peak again in April. This trend was also observed in other countries. Some countries have also seen a third wave, ”said Lav Agarwal, deputy secretary of the Ministry of Health.
Officials also said the pandemic is now spreading to Tier 2 and 3 cities, underscoring the need to reduce response time to treatment so that hospital infrastructure is not as strained.
