Covid: PM Modi chairs the meeting with empowered groups; expansion of the insurance scheme for health workers | India News

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a meeting on Friday to review the functioning of various empowered groups on Covid-19 and the actions taken by them.
Prime Minister Modi said the Center should work closely with states to ensure that the poor get the benefits of free food grains without any problems, said a statement issued by the PMO.
The Prime Minister also said that steps should be taken to speed up the settlement of pending insurance claims so that the deceased’s dependents can take advantage of benefits on time.
It was also decided to extend the insurance plan for frontline health workers for another six months.
The empowered group on issues related to supply chain facilitation and logistics management made a presentation on various advisories related to measures that will be taken to contain the pandemic, according to the statement.
Prime Minister Modi instructed officials to plan comprehensively to ensure the continuous movement of goods to avoid supply chain disruptions.
During the meeting, it was also discussed that NGOs can help establish and maintain lines of communication between patients, their dependents and health personnel.
The meeting comes in the wake of an unprecedented Covid crisis in India. The country on Friday reported more than 3.8 lakhs of new cases and 3,000 deaths in its highest increase in history.
