CHENNAI: The increase in Covid cases and the increased need for isolation and home treatment has led to a shortage of trained nurses, paramedics and phlebotomists. Consequently, there is an increase of almost 20% in salary for those jobs and some institutions are also shortening the track to paramedic students to incorporate them quickly.
Bengaluru-based home health care startup Portea saw a 40% increase in demand for home nurses between March and April. India Home Health, another home health care company, says the second wave has caused a “big jump” in demand for staff for home ICU setup, oxygen management and other tasks.
