NEW DELHI: Exit survey results for Assam who went to the polls in three phases from March 27 to April 6 to elect 126 MLAs for the 15th Legislative Assembly have started to arrive. The state recorded an overall voter turnout of 82.04 percent.
Before the vote, four opinion polls predicted between 64 and 78 seats for the BJP and between 48 and 60 seats for the Opposition. In the elections, the ruling BJP forged an alliance with the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and the United Liberal People’s Party (UPPL), while Congress extended its Grand Alliance to include parties such as the Bodoland Popular Front (BPF) and Lalu. Prasad headed the RJD.
In the previous assembly election, Congress lost its power to the BJP. The BJP-led NDA had won 86 seats out of 126. Congress had won 26, while the AGP had secured 14 seats.
