Court postpones verdict in case of rape against Tarun Tejpal until May 12 | India News
NEW DELHI: A Goa court on Tuesday postponed the verdict on the alleged rape case against Tehelka founder-editor Tarun Tejpal to May 12.
On November 7-8, 2013, Tejpal allegedly sexually assaulted a woman at an event organized by Tehelka at a starred hotel in North goa.
On November 22, the police submitted a first suo motu information report (FIR TREE) against Tejpal.
He appeared in Goa on November 28, 2013 and was arrested on November 30 after his advance bail statement was rejected. He was released on bail on May 19, 2014 to attend his mother’s cremation and has been out of jail ever since. In July 2014, Tejpal was released on bail.
In September 2017, a Mapusa court charged Tejpal with allegedly raping a minor colleague in November 2013. Tejpal has pleaded not guilty, paving the way for a trial.
The cross-examination of the survivor began on October 21, 2019.
Previously, Tejpal, through a request for criminal review, challenged the formulation of the charges by the additional district and session court.
On December 20, 2017, the superior court had dismissed Tejpal’s request.
