SC Advances Weekly Summer Vacation Due to Increase in Covid Cases, Says Bar Bodies | India News

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court decided on Monday to advance its summer vacation, which will now start from May 8 in light of the sudden increase in Covid-19 cases.
Chief Justice NV Ramana on his first day of work held a “pop-up meeting” with the bar bodies, including the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA), the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCAORA) and the Indian Council of Lawyers to monitor the growing Covid situation.
SCBA Chief Advocate and President Vikas Singh said that “at the pop-up meeting it was decided that instead of May 14, the summer vacation will now start from May 8 and end on June 27.”
He said that the CJI also approved in principle the opening of the Covid service center in the new building of the Supreme Court room.
“The SCBA executive council has approached the Delhi government to inspect the site and submit a feasibility report. Tehsildar Chanakyapuri is already informed to make the necessary arrangements for the inspection of the building, ”Singh said.
Meanwhile, SCAORA Secretary Joseph Aristotle said that the CJI has mainly agreed to provide a suitable area to establish medical facilities for at least 60 beds and other facilities such as RT-PCR testing and vaccination.
