Covid-19: Rajnath Reviews Ministry of Defense Efforts to Cope with Pandemic | India News


NEW DELHI: Defense Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday reviewed the efforts of various wings of the ministry to contribute to India’s battle against a second wave of rapidly spreading coronavirus.
Singh carried out the review in a virtual meeting attended by the Chief of Defense Staff, General Bipin Rawat, the Chief of the Army, General MM Naravane, the Chief of the Navy, Admiral Karambir Singh, and the president of the DRDO, G Satheesh Reddy, among others.
The three services, as well as other branches of the Ministry of Defense (MoD), have been providing support to various state governments and union territories in dealing with the massive increase in Covid-19 cases.
“Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh is reviewing the Defense Ministry’s efforts to deal with the prevailing Covid-19 situation in the country,” the defense minister’s office tweeted.
Since Friday, the Indian Air Force airlifted empty oxygen tanks and containers to various gas stations across the country to accelerate the distribution of much-needed medical oxygen in treating Covid-19 patients.
The IAF has also been transporting essential drugs, as well as equipment required by Covid-designated hospitals in various parts of the country.
On Saturday, an IAF C-17 transport plane arrived at Singapore’s Changi Airport to bring high-capacity oxygen containers to increase oxygen supply in the country.
“The Indian Air Force is conducting sorties to reduce transport time for oxygen and other critical supplies. A C-17 arrived today at Singapore’s Changi Airport. These cryogenic oxygen tank containers will help increase oxygen supply. in the country, “Singh said. the office said.
India is struggling with a second wave of coronavirus infection and hospitals in several states are reeling from acute shortages of medical oxygen and beds in light of the growing number of Covid-19 cases.
