HC intervenes while injured man without sovereign guarantee in Pathankot has yet to receive help | India News

HYDERABAD: The Telangana HC on Thursday ordered the state government to immediately sanction financial assistance to a former NSG commando who was seriously injured in the 2016 Pathankot airbase terror attack so that he can build a house. The state government assured in October 2018 that it would build a house for the commando, Kanagala Sriramulu, at no cost after allocating a 300-square-yard plot on the outskirts of Hyderabad.
Almost three years after the government’s promise, the matter was stored cold. On Thursday, a bench of Chief Justice Hima Kohli and Judge B Vijaysen Reddy ordered the Finance Secretary to sanction the fund or appear in court while listening to a PIL. Last month, when the case became known, the judges had asked the state government to report if any decision was made.
Sriramulu defused three real bombs during a terror attack at the Pathankot Indian Air Force base in Punjab on January 2, 2016 and saved several lives, but was seriously injured when the fourth exploded on him in the process. He could not walk, speak freely, or do anything on his own. The PIL was taken over by the court four years ago after learning of Sriramulu’s plight through media reports.
