NEW DELHI: Businesses ranging from state oil companies to private steel producers are joining agencies like DRDO to establish new Covid care facilities near their oxygen units to reduce the need to transport gas and address gas constraints. infrastructure.
Government sources told TOI that about half a dozen sites have been identified, including at Panipat and Bina, where IndianOil and Bharat Petroleum have refineries. Likewise, JSW’s steel unit in Dolvi (Maharashtra) and the Hisar facilities of the Jindal group will also have Covid facilities. Hamirpur in UP and Bellary in Karnataka have been identified as other possible sites.
“Some of these facilities will be ready in about a week,” said a source, adding that the government was looking for innovative ways to address the shortage. Several companies have already expanded support. On Thursday, state company SAIL said it had supplied 36,747 metric tons (MT) of liquid medical oxygen since Aug. 20 under the requirement and was increasing production to meet the additional requirement.
To increase supplies, oxygen was being transported from Odisha, which is among the states that have surpluses due to the presence of many steel plants.
