5 killed in accident at railroad crossing | India News


BAREILLY: Five people were killed and one person seriously injured Thursday after a train collided with some vehicles at a railway crossing in Uttar Pradesh’s Shahjahanpur district, police said. The crossing gates were open when the train passed.
According to sources, the Chandigarh-Lucknow special train received a green signal while the railway crossing was open for vehicles. The train’s engine was also damaged. A senior rail official said a major accident was avoided as the train was carrying hundreds of passengers.
Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath has announced a compensation of 2 lakh rupees for the relatives of the deceased.
The victims were identified as Sadaqat (42), his wife Gulafshan (35), son Hamza
(2), Satendra Singh (38) and Prempal (60). Sadaqat was going to attend his brother-in-law’s funeral. He was riding a motorcycle with his wife and son in the back seat when the tragedy occurred. Satendra was the driver of a truck that was exploded in two by the impact of the speeding train. Prempal was responding to the call of the wild near the track when he was struck by some damaged parts of the truck.
The Additional Director General of Police Avinash Chandra, Shahjahanpur Chief Superintendent of Police S Anand and District Magistrate Indra Vikram Singh rushed to the scene. All rail traffic between Shahjahanpur and Delhi was affected for almost five hours. The DM said: “The crossing was open when the train passed and railroad officials are finding out if the signal failure was a reason behind the accident.”
