NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today called on top officials to work quickly to increase their production, increase the speed of distribution, and use innovative ways to provide oxygen support to healthcare facilities.
Chairing a high-level meeting, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reviewed oxygen supply across the country and discussed ways and means to increase its availability.
The prime minister also said that states must act against any accumulation of oxygen and ordered officials to ensure that the supply of oxygen to various states is done smoothly and without hindrance and called for accountability to be established with the administration. local in cases of obstruction.
The meeting also discussed ways and means to increase oxygen availability amid demands from many states for an increase in its supply. Modi was told that the supply of life-saving gas to the states has been steadily increasing.
Faced with the current demand in 20 states of 6,785 MT / day of liquid medical oxygen, the Center has assigned 6,822 MT / day to these states since April 21, according to a statement.
The meeting was attended by the Cabinet Secretary, the Chief Secretary of PM, the Secretary of the Interior, the Secretary of Health and officials from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Ministry of Road Transport, Pharmaceuticals and NITI Aayog.
It was observed that in recent days, the availability of liquid medical oxygen has increased by around 3,300 MT / day with contributions from private and public steel plants, industries, oxygen manufacturers, as well as through the prohibition of oxygen supply for non-essential industries.
Modi said states should strongly reduce hoarding and emphasized the need to ensure faster oxygen transport.
The statement said that railways are being used for fast and nonstop transportation of long-distance tankers. The first rake has arrived from Mumbai to Vizag to transport 105 MT of liquid medical oxygen. Similarly, empty oxygen tanker trucks are also being airlifted to oxygen providers to reduce one-way travel time on oxygen supply.
The prime minister was informed that an elaborate exercise is being carried out in coordination with the states to find their oxygen demand and ensure an adequate supply accordingly, according to the statement.
Senior officials representing various ministries informed Modi that they are working together with the states to bring the sanctioned PSA oxygen plants into operation as soon as possible.
“The prime minister ordered officials to ensure that the oxygen supply to various states is smooth and unhindered. He spoke about the need to establish responsibilities with the local administration in cases of obstruction. He also asked the ministries to explore various innovative ways to increase oxygen production and delivery, “he said.
Several measures are being taken to rapidly increase the availability of cryogenic tankers by converting nitrogen and argon tankers, importing and air transporting tankers, as well as their manufacture, he added.
