SC sets time limits for the appointment of HC judges | India News

NEW DELHI: Holding that the delay in appointing judges has led to a “crisis situation” in the higher courts, the Supreme Court on Tuesday set time limits for each stage of the prosecution and said the Center could not sit on the names in case a recommendation is reiterated. and the appointment has been made in a month.
Noting that there was no deadline set in the memorandum of procedure (MoP) for the Center to forward recommendations to the SC after receiving reports from state governments, a bench from Chief Justice SA Bobde and justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Suya Kant said that the Center must send the names to the SC within 8 to 12 weeks from the date of receipt of the opinions of the state governments and the contributions of the Intelligence Office.
According to the MOP schedule, states should take no more than six weeks to submit their views and the Center can presume that state governments have no objection if their views are not received within six weeks.
