Nation that sees Gandhis shameful arrogance when everyone needs to unite: BJP | India News

NEW DELHI: The BJP lashed out in Congress on Wednesday for its criticism of the Center’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic, saying the country was seeing the “disgraceful arrogance” of the Gandhi family at a time when everyone should come together to combat the virus.
BJP spokesman Sambit Patra accused Congress of spreading “fake news and panic” rather than being responsible in this hour of crisis.
Attacking Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, BJP (organization) general secretary BL Santhosh said: “This man will end up becoming a major nuisance to his party as well. Now, he is targeting one of the largest vaccine producing companies. What a shame.” .
Santosh was reacting to Gandhi’s tweet about “vaccine discrimination” by the government and the suggestion that the Serum Institute’s price for the vaccine was a case of the Center helping its “friends.”
Gandhi had also likened the government’s vaccination strategy to demonetization, which he claimed helped industrialists prosper and common people suffer.
Responding, Patra asked why the Gandhis “hate” the enterprising Indians so much and asked if it was because this makes people “not dependent” on the Gandhis.
“Gandhis and Congress wanted vaccines to be open to everyone and their state governments wanted to be able to get them,” Patra said. “Now when they are allowed to do so, Rahul Gandhi has again said that some private companies will benefit from it.”
Praising the role of the private sector during the crisis, the BJP leader said he was behind the country having vaccines.
If the nation has proof of Covid it is from private companies, he claimed, adding that hospitals, doctors and healthcare workers in the private sector were also doing everything they could to save lives.
“From oxygen to drugs, it is private companies that are helping the nation. According to Gandhis, should we throw them all away and seek the help of the Rajiv Gandhi foundation?” Patra asked.
Congressional leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also criticized the Center for oxygen exports last year, claiming it was unable to deliver oxygen to its own desperate citizens.
Santhosh accused her of selling “fake news” and causing panic.
Only 4 MT of medical oxygen was exported and the rest was industrial oxygen, and now production has reached 7,000 MT, he said.
Patra said the Modi government was actively coordinating with state governments to ensure the adequate supply of essential medical products, including oxygen.
“Perhaps the political leaders who do not allow time for governance do not know it, but the central and state governments are in contact almost daily on issues such as the supply of oxygen. The pharmaceutical company has also increased its supply of medicines,” he added.
Patra also questioned the Gandhis’ silence on the situation in Maharashtra, by far the worst affected state in the country, and Chhattisgarh, another state that has been hit hard by the second wave of the pandemic.
Chhattisgarh, ruled by Congress, is the only state whose ministers have spread “falsehoods” about the Covid vaccine, he said.
